Vampire Queen concept art (mini finished)

Postby Gaelion on Sun Mar 29, 2009 4:38 pm

Hi!

Take a look at the concept art for the upcoming Vampire Queen miniature.
The concept art is by Des Hanley.
The figure is being sculpted by Edgar Ramos and will have several options as usual.

The sword shown in the artwork is a 2-handed sword (thus the long grip). There will also be the optional 1handed sword/shield combo.
Seeing the feedback, as the final miniature will also have a non-helmeted head, and an optional left hand with the bat on a severed head as well.

Hope you like it!

The first thing I thought was "Damn he's gone for a female one", but then I had a second look and decided that it didn't really matter because this model looks far beyond promising... Personally I play Vampire Counts, so the vampire you promised us about a year back has held a special place in my heart. It looks like an excellent concept so far and I'm looking forward to this.

I hope you're gonna give her an optional head as well (preferably one without a helmet). Thus I could have one fitting with my warhammer theme and one to use in arena deathmatch.

Thanks for the link Dark Sheep! :D

I'm a VC player and one of the admins over at Carpe Noctem, a VC forum. DS showed this to us and I'm pretty excited about it, especially as GW has no decent female vampires that don't look like rats.

Looking at the current concept the first issue that comes to mind is the head. With those horns she looks very chaosy. GW made that mistake in their vampire remake, and I know loads of people who have bought the models and immediately filed off the offending spikes and horns.

Ideally she needs to look young and as beautiful. Some more nudity would also go a long way (for me at any rate), and I also hope she will have the options to be equipped as a caster as well as a warrior?

Awesome......can't wait for the mini

Ammount of skin showing is about right IMHO, Vampires and esp Queens tend to be the nobility of their world and as a result a bit more subtle, nakedness is more of a Dark Elf thing, think hedonistic and debaunched rituals etc.

Ooohhh! I like - alot. Maybe less bat imagery on the armour and drop the horns - otherwise a winner that will go nicely with my vampire counts. Where did the artist get the sword design from?

Any details on what optional extras we may be getting?
Looking forward to the finished model

No, don't drop the horns at all, completely gives her a cool Maleficent look from Sleeping Beauty. (Yes I referenced Disney, but she was completely evil and turned into one of the coolest Dragons in the history of fantasy/fables)

I have to say that I like the concept and great detailing. My only complaint has been the same for the past few minis, "Why is the stance so relaxed?!" If she just had her sword outward to the side it would look like she was menacingly stalking towards someone. I just like my minis to be more dynamic. The Chaos Lord looks like he could come alive at any moment in the throes of comabat. :barbarian:

The Chaos Dwarf Lord (which I do like) is standing waiting for the battle to begin or is just watching. The new Dark Elf Dragon Queen is just standing so calmly. Now this Vampire just walking calmly. Isn't this supposed to be wild ARENA COMBAT. The smilodon better not be laying down getting ready to fall asleep.

I would normally say that I will wait to see the mini finished. But lately when you guys show us a concept art, the mini is exactly like it. I know every model can't be in a fighting stance, but there are many poses that could be utilized instead of just standing or walking. :paladin:

Thanks for the feedback so far!
Indeed, she'll have different options, a non-helmeted head, a shield, the vampiric pet, ...

Do you really think that? To me she's walking with great confidence towards her opponent, walking slowly but decided, she's not relaxed at all, just confident, which is not the same by far, staring at and studying her opponent just a second before using her two blades to give two deadly lightning thrusts.
If she was walking that way towards you... would you really feel that she's relaxed, with no "bad" intentions?

The last two releases, are the Lord of Chaos and the Dark Elf Queen; I do not see them as being relaxed at all. Actually, the only pose that looks relaxed to me is the Dwarf lord of Chaos.

I will open a thread to receive feedback regarding which type of poses would you like to see. That will be indeed a very sueful info for future releases.

Been looking at the sword again and i think i know whats bothering me about it. The grip is too long in comparison to the blade, the grip is about half the length of the blade which is massively over sized. The blade size is fine by the way - makes a nice contrast to most other fantasy weapons which tend to have ridiculous blade lengths. hope that's helpful and i'm not being too picky about what is otherwise a great looking picture.

Firstly I would like to say that this is a very nice peice of concept are.I like the sword but if it was sculpted in that position it would be very hard to remove for people who want to convert it. Also, I'd prefer to tone down the bat imagery and most important of all SHE NEEDS LONG FLOWING HAIR. N.ot saying lose the helm, just give a second head with the hair
when god gives you lemons, you find a new god
